Unit 33- rehearsal logs
Tuesday 28th March-
When I first looked at the stimulus, my initial ideas were the idea of a relationship between the 2 men whether is farther and son, best man and groom or a gay marriage. My eye kept coming back to the rose and made me think about the relationship and when the rose dies it symbolises the relationship dying. I thought about the rose being a significate theme throughout the whole piece.
My groups original ideas were. -dolly and Rudi had the idea of looking at the aids epidemic in the 80's.
- Zack's idea was that the rose in the stimuli was powerful and had an impact on further decisions in peoples life's.
-Jess' idea was about a secret relationship which captivates the beauty and intimacy of it just being the 2 in the relationship knowing about it.
As a group we recognised similar ideas within each of our ideas. When I said about my idea of the rose being such a prominent figure throughout, Rudi told me that he had the same idea as in the 80's gay men used to put a rose in the blazer pocket to show to other gay men that they were gay.
After discussion we all knew that we wanted to go down the route of looking at the aids crisis in the 80's as we felt we could create a powerful piece to show the severity of this situation.
Wednesday 29th
rose scene-movement
Thursday 30th-
Worked on chords for 'funeral scene'
helped jess with lyrics for song (only a few)
discussed what we are going to do over holidays - I am going to make a monologue for the news paper scene.
Tuesday 18th April
- We worked on the club dance scene and enthusiasm within our movements
-Worked on the scene where the love interest meets the homosexual who is not out yet.-looked at a drs waiting room (clinic) and they’re having tests. We then thought about it being in a bar and the person who is not out yet finally felts free for once.
Wednesday 19th April
- In todays lesson we began by creating a funeral scene for the opening of our performance. We bang this scene by all mouthing a scream (dolly and zack) (me and rudi) and then Jess said our repetitive line for the first time which was ‘breathe in, breathe out and breathe through’. After this, we then went on to create this more like a funeral, for this scene dolly spoke her monologue for this whilst we created a short phrase which we repeated 3 times.we took influence from frantic assembly chair duets but all 4 of us did the same movements facing into dolly talking.
We then went over our dance again and changed some movements slightly to make it smoother.
Thursday 20th April
In todays lesson, I began by creating a monologue which is based on the idea of coming out to homophobic parents and how scary it can be. To help me I looked at peoples stories on coming out and how their homophobic parents reacted to it. This helped me get a better understanding on how people react to coming outs ( especially homophobic parents). It helped me understand the hurt and pain they go through just to not get that comfort of their parents being there for them. - I looked at stories on Pinterest and TikTok.
After break we did a quick rehearsal of our previous works we created this being the funeral and dance scene to show Lois.
Tuesday 25th April
In todays lesson we developed the drs scene. (Meet cue) -Nick (me) and Flo (Jess) meet for the first time. Flo invites nick to the club she is performing at that night. For this we created a script with dialogue.
We then created the club scene before the dance where Nick met Kit (love interest). Introduced ourselves before the dance scene. Then the dance scene happens
After this we developed on the newspaper scene we created previously. We worked on creating a flower with the newspapers with me in the centre. After this I’m reading about the aids crisis going on and debating my decisions.
Wednesday 26th April
In todays lesson, we worked on creating the scene of coming out. We had two conversations, one were the parents we in disgust and the other where the parents were proud of their son for coming out. Dolly wrote the scripts. We worked on our staging for each of these scenes and our character development between each scene.
We then rehearsed our beginning scene (the funeral scene) and our drs scene where Nick meets Flo. We developed this scene so that our staging worked better with the audience. We move our chairs into a 1 then a 2 behind. We did this to add more movement into our piece
11th May
In todays lesson, we began working on our final funeral scene. We created and work on movement for this section.
We then worked on the death scene. We went over the moves for the monologue and the created movements for the song section after the death. We worked on these movements being big and clear as we want to put them behind a sheet with the lighting coming through.
