Devising stimuli: physical theatre

What was your initial response to the stimulus and why?

When we first saw this stimulus which was a picture of a disaster/ destruction of buildings. As a group we decided to create a scene based off the rubble around the disaster and work on the idea of being lost / looking for others in situations like this. From thinking of the idea of being lost, we then looked deeper into being lost and how isolated you can feel.

We used physical theatre to create this scene, but we also wanted to add levels this being repetition of simply our breath to show impact and severity of the situation. We took a lot of inspiration from Gecko when creating this piece as we felt they used the idea of creating tension a lot and that is something that we really wanted to show within our work. We also created some sound scaping within our piece to again help build tension, for this we created a heartbeat sound by banging our fists onto the floor to create depth and show how much something like this can affect someone. To end our piece, we all looked up as if something was falling down on us, we then screamed as we dropped to the ground. After that 2 people survived from the destruction that being Ella and myself and 2 people died that being Kayliegh and Chloe.

If we hadn't performed this idea, our group also looked at the idea of someone being lost within themselves which we thought would be a good idea as in the generation everyone can feel lost at any time.
