Devising from a stimuli

State clearly and discuss in detail the practitioners that influenced your work and why?

One practitioner that influenced our work was Brecht. The reason for being so influenced by Brecht is because we wanted the audience to feel engaged and feel a part of our performance. We created scenes which we though would make the audience feel empathy and real emotion, an example of the scenes we created is the execution scene and an interview scene from his sister's point of view.
We also used physical theatre by using the modern dance within our piece and mime.

What practical performance skills did you and your group apply to your piece.

A practical skill I feel we all used effectively was teamwork, as in this lesson we were supposed to be a group of 5 but ended up being a group of 3 due to illness. By this happening, we had to adapt our scenes make them work with only three people. We began by looking at our scenes from the previous week and decided which ones we could keep, and which ones would work with 3 people meaning they would have to go. After doing this, we got up and worked together on adapting and creating new scenes for our performance.

What was the content of your piece, theme and intention?

The content of our piece was based off the real-life story of the execution of George Stinney. We wanted to highlight the fact of how wrong the death penalty was due to a 14-year-old boy being executed within 3 hours of court and being charged with guilty within just 10 minutes. We wanted to help make people understand how sever and sudden the death penalty can be. At the start of our performance, we had a dance which consisted of us moving our head, our arms, our legs and folding our spine. We wanted to signify how when being executed, your hold body is affected.
