Group Performance
What inspired the choice of practitioner and why?
At the beginning of the lesson, we watched some previous performances which were created by the previous years. By watching them, we all felt highly inspired of the different styles they used and practitioners. We were mainly inspired by Brecht and took elements from his work which included breaking the fourth wall, unfortunately we did not manage to include this into our piece due to the lack of time we had to work on this. We also really wanted to explore physical theatre, in which we did. We made physical theatre apart of our piece by doing our hand sequence at the beginning and our formation, another way we included this was when we were all pretending to get dressed later on in the piece.
What techniques were included?
One technique we included within our performance was choral speaking which I feel we did effectively when we all said the line 'if only they knew'. I feel like choral speaking for this line was a good idea as it gave more emphasises on the fact that this person who the stimulus was based on feels like no one really knows them. Another technique we included within our performance was mime, a section where this was used effectively was when I was miming getting dressed then everyone else joined in, this helped build up this section until the end where everything stopped. Another technique which we tried to include within our performance was dramatic pause. We were planning on having a dramatic pause at the end of the piece which we had done and the carry on with more performance. However, we unfortunately ran out of time and couldn't go any further with making the idea of the dramatic performance effective.
What elements were effective during rehearsal process and why?
I feel within our rehearsals for this performance, as a group we all had good communication skills and could identify when one and other needed to speak up. When we first got the stimulus, neither of us understood how to go about it and what we could do to create this performance. We were then told to write words of what we thought this monologue represented, as a group we firstly thought of a colour and all decide that the stimulus was representing the colour grey and had a dark feel hidden behind it. We the thought about a shape, for this we thought of two different shapes which had the same idea which were a star and a triangle, after this we thought about weather which we all decided on cold and then finally we thought what sound it represented and we all came to the conclusion of white noise. After discussing, we all felt more clear on the stimulus and got straight up and got right into creating our piece.
